Chinese tech giant Xiaomi has made it clear since its inception that it won’t only deal with technological devices like phones. From electric robot vacuums to massage devices, we’ve seen a variety of products from them over time. Looking to expand its portfolio even further, the company is now working on an electric vehicle. The Xiaomi MS11 EV has been spotted on the roads before its market release. Here are the images.

The Xiaomi MS11 electric sedan has been spotted on the highway

Xiaomi’s first electric vehicle, the MS11 electric sedan, was spotted on the road in a heavily camouflaged manner. The location is the Urumqi-Sanchi intercity highway, where Xiaomi is conducting high-temperature tests for the vehicle. We previously reported that Xiaomi had been given the green light for EV production. Now, we have the opportunity to see Xiaomi’s first EV, the MS11, in action.

In the past few days, Xiaomi made a significant impact in the domain of domain names by acquiring the XiaomiEV.com domain. When coupled with China’s state planning department granting them a new automobile manufacturing license, it’s evident that Xiaomi has abruptly escalated its electric vehicle venture to a new level.

Back in the beginning of 2021, when the company entered the EV business, many were skeptical about a technology company delving into an unexplored field. However, Xiaomi swiftly instilled confidence. Lei Jun, the CEO of Xiaomi, emphasized that their electric car project was ahead of schedule during an investor conference. He also assured that the vehicles will be launched by the first half of 2024.

Big blow to Google: Is Xiaomi developing its own operating system?

Xiaomi has recently registered the domain name ''mios.cn''. Will the company develop its own operating system?

Xiaomi is not only progressing toward the final deadline but also staying ahead of it. In fact, Lu Weibing, who oversees Xiaomi’s international trade, stated that the progress is exceeding expectations.

Details of the Xiaomi MS11 battery were leaked in June. This electric powerhouse will feature a long-range version with a 101 kWh ternary (NMC) battery. It promises an 800 km range and is built upon an 800V architecture. Its energy density stands at 157 Wh/kg, which is fairly average. While many speculated CATL as the battery supplier, Xiaomi swiftly established partnerships with both CATL and CALB.

In terms of cost, the MS11 sedan has been positioned to compete with the big players like the Tesla Model 3, BYD Seal, Deepal SL03, and other Chinese EV sedans. This places it in a rather contentious price range of around 200,000 RMB (approximately 25,500 €).
